Balmar XT-170 Specification Sheet (LINK)
The all new Balmar XT-170 is a 170A rated, 12 Volt output, dual foot, Yanmar/Hitachi 3.15" saddle mount alternator. The new XT-170 was designed and built from the ground up to maximize cooling and deliver high amperage output a low engine RPM. This alternator is ideal for the slow turning marine diesel where the owner wants to maximize alternator performance at a low RPM. The new XT-170 replaces the AT-165 and is hands down the best performing small case alternator we've ever tested.
Balmar designed everything about this alternator from the ground up, from scratch, including their new "advanced braided stator
" design. They took what they learned from the AT-165 and went all out on the new XT. The new XT-170 runs considerably cooler than its predecessor the AT-165.
The XT-170 comes standard fitted with a J10 pulley to work in conjunction with the Balmar / AltMount serpentine belt
conversion kits but a dual-v or a K6 pulley are also available, so please specify this when ordering.
The XT-170 features a proprietary braided stator, isolated ground, epoxy coating and a stator tap. The XT Series, due to the very efficient braided stator design, is a higher output
alternator than can normally be accommodated in a small case size. The all new braided stator technology greatly improves efficiency thus allowing a higher achievable output in a small frame unit.
*Please be aware that the XT-170 requires either a J10 or K6 serpentine belt or a dual v-belt configuration. This alternator will
not run on a single v-belt.
